Protect our culture (school homework) Cantonese culture The language we spoken Cantonese is a spoken language in some places such as Guangzhou ,Hong kong even Singapore . I am here to introduce my native language. Cantonese ,which is a dialect spoken by 120 million people around the worlds has 9 tones more than Mandarin and can be found some very interesting idioms . That is why I think it is one of the beautiful languages in the world. The place we live in Guangzhou is one of the modernist cities in China, locates in Guangdong province. It is neither cold nor hot. As its economy develops rapidly, many customs change gradually and some views even disappear, for example, Dadadi situated in Liwan district, one of the oldest district in Guangzhou. It sold cheap and good items , but for the time change, it had to remove to build skyscrapers. However , our young people even don’t know where the place was. Technology change our habits even our culture. Another example is that only old Cantonese like to drink morning tea with friends. But young people don’t like this way, they think it is expensive and waste of time. They like to gather at fast food restaurants and cafeteria such as KFC, Pizza Hut and Starbucks. Protect our language In the former years, I could see such “To be a good person, please speak Mandrian” this slogans in many schools. I deeply disagree. Why speak Cantonese can not be a good person. We should be proud of our native language. Some of my foreign friends are fond of learning Cantonese, but some people live or even grow up in Guangzhou refuse to learn Cantonese. What a pity it is. Schools not allow to teach in Cantonese. But the most sadness is , young Cantonese speakers don’t know the tradition idioms and the culture of Cantonese. From now on, we should try our best to protect our language. Speaking Cantonese as possible as with friends instead of Mandarin. Thanks a lot
