Picking up Japanese through anime
I watch a lot of anime and mostly the English subbed version, I am interested in knowing if it is possible to pick up enough Japanese to have basic conversations, through watching anime? I'd really like your opinions on this.

My favourite animation movie's keyword is...
Disney, Pixar, Hayao Miyazaki, Katsuhiro Otomo.
Especially, I like "Toy story", "Spirited away" and "AKIRA".

Only the very basic and short often used phrases like "daijobu" (OK), "sukida", (I love you [in a very strong sense] "dame" (No!), "itai" (ouch), "baga" (idiot). All these I picked up and figured while watching Inuyasha and Naruto. Others, depending on the period setting, I learnt that "hime" is a princess, "okaasan" (honorific for mother) "haha" (informal for mother) etc. Other than these simple terms, I still have to watch them in subs but able to catch them in the dialog. Of course, it all depends on how good we are in our listening and retaining skills. No matter what, I enjoyed what I watched :)
