Relative Pronouns/Adverbs - Part 1 Relative pronouns (who, whoever, which, whichever etc..) and relative adverbs (where, wherever, when, whenever why, however much, etc..) are often used to join sentences or clauses and/or introduce a post-modifying clause. Ex: We will offer to dinner to whoever comes over tonight. In this example, "whoever" serves as a relative pronoun. Ex2: When I came home you weren't there. In this example, "when" serves as a relative adverb. In Nepali, I continue to struggle to use these words correctly. In my next 3 posts, I will attempt many examples using these words, while also providing the English translation. 1) जे बिशायेको बारेमा पायौ, त्यो/त्यही अनुसन्धान गर्नु छ Whatever topic you receive, that is the one you have to research. 2) म जहिले टिम् भन्ने सँस्थको मुख्य भवन आइपुगेँ, कसले / कसैले पनि काम गरिरहेको थिएनन When I arrived at the organization Team's main office, no one/nobody was working. 3) जस्तो तरकारी मनपर्छ, त्यस्तो / त्यस्तै किन्नेपनि हुन्छ You could buy whatever kind of vegetables that you like. 4) जुन शहरमा बसियो त्यहीँ कोही नेपाली बोल्ने मान्छे छ Whichever city you live in there would be some Nepali speaking people there. 5) जसले ध्यान गर्छ त्यसैलाई रम्न लाग्छ Those who meditate feel satisfied from within.

Relative Pronouns/Adverbs - Part 1

My suggestions follows the English sentences.

1) जे बिशायेको बारेमा पायौ, त्यो/त्यही अनुसन्धान गर्नु छ
Whatever topic you receive, that is the one you have to research.

जे विषय पाउँछौ, त्यसैमा अनुसन्धान गर्नुपर्छ  ।

2) म जहिले टिम् भन्ने सँस्थको मुख्य भवन आइपुगेँ, कसले / कसैले (1) पनि काम गरिरहेको थिएनन
When I arrived at the organization Team's main office, no one/nobody was working.

म टिम् भन्ने संस्थाको मुख्य कार्यालयमा पुग्दा, कोहि पनि काम गरिरहेको थिएन  ।

busy on facebook, may be ;)

3) जस्तो तरकारी मनपर्छ, त्यस्तो / त्यस्तै किन्नेपनि (2) हुन्छ
You could buy whatever kind of vegetables that you like.

जुन तरकारी मनपर्छ, त्यही किन्दा / किने हुन्छ ।

4) जुन शहरमा बसियो त्यहीँ कोही नेपाली बोल्ने मान्छे छ
Whichever city you live in there would be some Nepali speaking people there.

जुन शहरमा बसे पनि, त्यहाँ नेपाली बोल्ने मान्छे हुन्छन् ।

5) जसले ध्यान गर्छ त्यसैलाई रम्न लाग्छ
Those who meditate feel satisfied from within.

जसले ध्यान गर्छ उसले भित्र देखि सन्तुष्ट महसुस गर्छ ।

1. Some example of कसले / कसैले

मेरो किताब कस्ले लगेछ । >> (I  Wonder ) who took my book.

मेरो किताब कसैले लगेछ ।>>  ( I found out that) somebody took my book.

तिमीलाई यो किताब कस्ले दियो ? >> Who gave you this book ?

जुन फुल मैले चाँहेको थिए कसैले टिपेछ । >>( I found out that) somebody plucked the flower that I liked.

( This is an old but a nice song by Narayan Gopal, I like it )

2. किनेपनि हुन्छ

You may as well buy that.

The one I used is more persuassive.  किनेपनि हुन्छ and नकिने पनि हुन्छ >> These both mean the same; it doesn't matter much whether you buy it or not.
