What Does It Mean?

I listen to the song with the words/having the lyrics:

"Crocodile...single file"

What does this line mean?

It means that something is being likened to crocodiles following each other into the water.  They move in a single file or straight line following the tail of another. Such behavior is one thing making crocodiles distinctive.  Few animals do this. A family of ducks also marches in this way. This line is a depiction being used as a typology or descriptive routine of this species' behavior; that is, the following of a leader along a line used as a descriptive analogy). If it is Pontus' 1983 kid's crocodile song you are referring to, it  is probably written like this (since crocodile and file rhyme):

"Crocodile, crocodile...

We're marching/swimming in single file."

Yes, it means, as Gareth says, that the crocodiles should walk in a line, one behind the other. People do it sometimes walking over bridges to avoid too much weight (here they also 'break step'), or on narrow pavements (so there is enough room to walk both ways). One also calls 'single file' 'Indian file'. (maybe the crocodiles came from India?)

Single file means one at a time. Typically a queue of people to access something. A queue of people, one behind the other in essence.
