Respect others’ privacy
There are many differences between chinese culture and western culture.
What impressed me most is that attitude towards personal privacy.
Although china stands for a culture of excellence,it also has many things make me sick.The most thing is chinese people’ attitude towards personal privacy.
I used to heard that if you ask western people where they are going or have you eaten yet is impolite.I cant agree this more! In china,That is very common in daily life,especially in countryside,which even becomes social gaffes.Even though some people ask so unintentionally,it makes me uncomfortable.I think it is none of the askers business.But when I heart western people greet to each other by talking about the weather,I felt strange about it.
Let me give you some examples.To start with,when I
receive my parcel,my friend always ask me what I bought.The second,once I was off for a day,my friend asked me what I had done at home next day.
It really burned me up!So I think respecting others’ privacy is important in relationship.

Thank you for sharing. I think a strength about Italki (I'm sorry that I have not really tried other language exchange portals) is that members can share their experiences in a natural way. In addition to helping one another elevate our language proficiency, we offer a listening ear.
Perhaps it's a cultural thing, Eqss, as you rightly pointed out. When we ask each other if we had eaten our meal, it's not a literal question. It's a formality. I'm wondering if there are any other non-literal questions that are asked in other cultures, besides the Chinese culture?

.Even though some people ask so unintentionally,it makes me uncomfortable. > Even though some of them just ask these questions for the sake of asking, without any intent to be a busybody, they still make me feel uncomfortable.
I think it is none of the askers business.> I personally think that , whatever it is, its none of their business.

Anyway, let me give you some examples of how inquisitive my friends can be.
To start with,when Ireceive my parcel,my friend always ask me what I bought. > The first one is the time when I received a parcel and my friend had to ask me what I had bought. ( To star with, you need some money first before you think of going )
The second,once I was off for a day,my friend asked me what I had done at home next day.> The second is the time when I was on a day off from work and another friend of mine had to ask me what I did on that day.

So I think respecting others’ privacy is important in relationship.> So, I think to have respect for the privacy of others is important in any relationship.

wow.my friend had a similar experience.once she told me that her friend asked her what's in her parcel.she said that it's nothing,but her friend answered "you are off today",which made her very angry.she told to me that she thought she had the right to say "it's nothing".And I find that many people who dont like to be asking so always like to ask others.or maybe I just reading too much into it.

I think, the definition of privacy in your context is a bit different from the general acceptable standard.
With the examples, that you provided in the article. They are all fine in the western country. I ask my friend or colleague the similar question in a daily basis, and I never have problem with them.
