The Nature doesn't what to collaborate There is a Hindu proverb that says that it's the dream of a good crop that implements the success. However, that isn't true. It doesn't matter how much the farmers dream and how much they work if Nature not collaborates, as is the fact this summer. In Sweden, this year summer started already in May, and we have had almost no rain at all. There is no hope for a reasonable harvest. Even if we now need plenty of rain, it's too late. May started off too warm which lead to weak stems, and furthermore without rain, the crops will not grow. The dream of a good harvest is over now. This overwhelming heat causes a lot of problems. The farmers, without livestock, who haven't any side income, need an area of 250–300 ha, this year they will lose 350 USdollar per ha. The farmers with cattle suffer profoundly seeing their cows not eating because of the heat. Furthermore, if we don't get rain soon, there is an evident risk that the farmers need to slaughter the animals because of the lack of fooder. First, there will be a surplus of meat at the Swedish market, and then, as it takes years for animal breeders to produce enough animals, we will have a shortage of beef and, of course, all sorts of dairy products. Unfortunately, if that will happen, we will see many small companies going bankrupt. The headline in one of our evening papers says that this is the hottest summer in 260 years. The soil is so dry that even a little sparkle may cause grand forest fires. To quote thelocal.se: "... around 50 wildfires are burning across Sweden, and firefighters are saying they won't even be able to put out some of the largest blazes until it rains." The estimated cost for the forest owners is, at the time of writing, more than 6.8 million USdollar. The forests can never be replaced during their lifetime, as it takes about 50 years for a spruce forest to grow. One of the forest fire covers more than the size of 19000 soccer fields. In an attempt to reduce the damages the fire brigades feel that they have to put on fire 800 ha to make fire breaks.
