I might suggest some slight differences for American English:

Climb a ladder
Stare out the window ("Of" is a preposition and is okay to use but is not required here. We would tend not to use it.)
Whistle a tune
Hug someone tightly ("Hug" is a verb and you are describing how you did it, so use the adverb.)
Kick a football?
Lick an ice-cream cone. (Unlike British English, in the U.S. "ice cream" is considered uncountable unless it is with something countable, like a cone. You may also say "Lick some ice cream.") 
Kneel down to pray
Bite your nails
Blow up a balloon
Scratch an insect bite
Clap your hands to the music
Point at a place on the map
Hit a nail with a hammer
March like a soldier
