In schools , they have taught us something different ! Now , I am trying to reprogram my brain , hoping that life will be more easier embracing this fact : " I don't learn to walk by following rules.I learn by doing,and by falling over."

"following the rules" is a more common way to say it but changes the emphasis slightly to imply that you are now going to break the rules.
