Is this sentence correct?
Teaching is like a trip. our first stop is what to teach.

Something doesn't feel right about it. I would change it to:
"Teaching is like a trip. Our first stop is deciding what to teach."

This might be personal preference, but because these sentences go together I would use a semicolon between them:
Teaching is like a trip; our first stop is what to teach.
