Why “capture” in “The company captured a market share”, but “occupy” in “He occupies the position of manager”?

Capture describes a change of state from not having a market share to having a market share. He occupies the position of manager is a state, not a change of state.
So they captured the market share = they took it, not they have it
He occupies the position = he has it, not he got it.

Capture might be interpreted to come before occupation depending on the context: the attackers captured the village, now they're occupying it.
