In English you have 3 different words (or more?) to translate the italian word VIAGGIO. I'm not sure to use them correctly.
This is what I figured out:
A travel / to travel = is the abstract idea of moving around. "I like travelling" "My favorite hobby is travelling".
A trip = when you travel to a place, you stay and then you come back (Is it similar to the concept of "holiday"?)
"Last year I went on a trip to Spain"
"We're planning a trip to Paris"
or
"We're planning a holiday in Paris"
A journey = moving to a place to another. "The journey from Valencia to Barcelona took 4 hours"
I always try to express my doubts in the language I'm studying so feel free to correct the text I just wrote apart from solving my doubt. :)

"Trip" is similar to "Holiday" but different in that you can also make short trips to the store or to a friends place. Basically 'trip' can be used to not only describe a holiday but can also describe a journey to any place, not only holidays.
