What do you call these in UK? These comments from the British confused me.

I'm in the US, but based on Rob's answer, I'm guessing these would definitely be "chips":

And these could probably be called either "chips" or "fries":

(In the US all of the above would be "fries," although we do use the term "fish and chips" when we talk about a plate of food that comes with fish and fries/chips, as in the first image above.)

In Britain the fried potato products that come in a foil packet are called CRISPS. In Britain French fries are called French Fries or CHIPS. in Britain we also have big fat CHIPS! (Big fat fries if you like.)
