I personally think that Chinese has an extremely rich, very specific vocabulary. If in English I need a few words to express an idea, usually in Chinese it's all condensed in a single, perfectly fitting word. The problem is that I need to learn a huge amount of vocabulary! Especially since I want to express myself with a certain degree of subtlety, not just say 这个很好， 这个不好! So, my feeling is the opposite as yours, but maybe it just depends on the fact that we are both learning a new fascinating language, and it could be a subjective feeling.

Language is not only a means of communication, but as you point out, a way we compose and frame our thoughts. Chinese has concepts and points of view which don't exist in English, because they are Chinese ways of thinking.
