A: What is your friend like?
B: Well, she's pretty and she likes to talk a lot. She also enjoys dancing. I think you both have a lot in common.
A: What does your friend look like?
B: She has long black hair, and she wears glasses. She'll be wearing a red sweater with a short black skirt. You can't miss her! She'll be waiting for you in front of the movie theater.

"What is your friend like" - might mean what is her personality, what does she like to do and even what she looks like as well. "What does your friend look like?" is a more specific question, asking only about looks.
