If this makes any sense, a combination is usually number and/or letters combined in a specific order to unlock something etc. While passwords are also numbers/letters, they're usually words but are mostly used (not saying they aren't used for other things) on computers/electronics, giving you access to data and whatnot. Combinations are mostly used (again, not saying they aren't used for other things) for objects (Like, not virtual) such as bikes or lockers etc. Sorry if I am wrong. This is just what I think.
