certo/a/i/e" ,
indetermined quantity - usually "alcuno/i/a/i is preferred but it is not a rule but personal preference-
Certi quaderni
Alcuni quaderni
"tale/tali",
Tale amico - this friend.
He is close - physically or while referrering to him in a speech after being already named,
"Ho incontrato un amico. Tale amico mi ha detto"
The word can be used also as noun : "il/la tale", one not well determined person
"alcune/alcuni" (it can be used in negative sentence)
some
alcuni di voi
alcune mie amiche
alcune delle mie amiche
non viene alcuno dei miei amici (negative acception)
alcuni uomini
qualche (it cannot be used in negative sentence)
a few
qualche mia amica
Also : qualcuna, qualcheduna delle mie amiche. They are variants for the same adjective.
Let me know if you need further examples
