a) 将 - Why do they use this character instead of 把 or something else? I'm used to seeing 将 used for (will/shall) 
- When you say you treat sth or sb as sth or sb. 将 and 把 are interchangeable. You can also use "当" for the same purpose.

b) 地 - How is this character used? I'm used to seeing it used as (-ly) after a verb.
- I think 地 is used as (-ly) before a verb, 得 is used as (-ly) after a verb.

c) 加 - how is this used in the provided sentence? To add more tender love?
- I think you're right. 有加 will only be used in the good way. Enhance the meaning of words before it.  
称赞有加，照顾有加。
