The actual quote is
"Technology is the science of arranging life so that one need not experience it"
it = life.
Technology is the science of changing life so that people do not have to get close to actually doing something with their hands or smelling, seeing or hearing things as they actually are. They don't experience the outside world - a machine will do that.

Confusing even for a native speaker of English... This means that 'Technology is something you have so you don't have to do everything yourself and use much time', I think.
