What does it mean " hog in a spotlight" I heard it in a movie. I'd like to know the exact meaning of it and in which situation can we use the phrase. Thanks in advance The usual saying is "hog the limelight". It is an old saying that came from the theatrical world. In the 19th century, limelight was used in spot lightling on stages (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limelight). Actors who were in the spot all the time were said to "hog the limelight", it meant that they always the ones getting noticed and tended to overshadow the performances of their fellow actors. Their fellows were slightly annoyed at this action. So "hog in a spotlight" is a related saying, it indicates someone who wants to be the centre of attention all the time. I'm sure that you know someone like this :-)

Unfortunately I don't now this one. To "hog" something is to have something all to yourself. To "hog the spotlight" would therefore be to make yourself the only one in the spotlight. I think I can explain this better with an example: "She hogged the spotlight to herself and no one else was included" and could be used to explain that a person in a group was trying to be the only important person in something. Maybe this is what you mean by "hog in a spotlight" or maybe it means something completely different that I don't know about :)
