This sentence is correct and it havn't any other meanings. Maybe your friend thought your pronunciation was funny. Italkit have a recording function. Maybe you can try recording your voice. We help you find the reason.

no worries, your sentence has no problem at all. I guess.... probably because your friend was worrying too much about  how to communicate with u in English...then found out that u could speak Chinese and got released
