How would you explain this sentence? The story of Chanel is difficult to tell. She did not even experience what most women of her generation did—marriage and children. Abandoned by her father the week after her mother died, Gabrielle the child suffered all the harshness of convent life, by which we do not mean misery and maltreatment but, rather, strictness, solitude, and mental anguish. Then came problematic beginnings. What could be hoped, at that time, for a poor girl brought up by the charity of nuns? Gabrielle risked, while barely out of adolescence, finding herself placed as a clerk with some regional tradesman. This was what she had to resist, had to escape. At age eighteen, she already had no other thought. Still, the young Chanel made her start in Moulins with just such an employment, working for a shopkeeper specializing in layettes, linens, and small wares. How would you explain this sentence: Gabrielle risked, while barely out of adolescence, finding herself placed as a clerk with some regional tradesman? What did she risk? Thanks!

She risked ending up with a job as a clerk to a local tradesman, a job that did not have a good future, where she would not easily be able to advance. She would be stuck in a low-paying job with little opportunity to do any better.
