Why is the "S" in the word "Sprache" capitalized? In the phrase: "Eine Sprache ist niemals genug." Why is the "S" in the word "Sprache" capitalized? Should I always capitalize the "S" in "Sprache" in all sentences? What are the basic rules of capitalization in German? Hope someone here can help me. Danke. (^_^)

In German all nouns are capitalised, like proper nouns in English.

Another remarkable difference between German and other languages is that adjectives based on nationality are not capitalized. For example: The German language. == Die deutsche Sprache. I am still making mistakes with these adjectives when I am writing quickly.

In addition to Jmat, if you can place der, die or das in front of a word then that word is capitalized.
