从东京来的飞机到了吗?/从东京的飞机到了吗?
I had a question from my student when I was teaching "从", and here comes a sentence:
从东京来的飞机到了吗?(Has the plane from Tokyo arrived?) In this sentence, 从 is used as "from". He then asked me can we ask the question this way:
从东京的飞机到了吗? I know this one is wrong, but I can not explain it.
Does anyone know how to explain it? Thanks a lot.

there isn't the “来”,in the second setence,in chinese, you can regard“从....来”as a stereotyped expression, that tell you where it come from.
my English is not good, but can u understand me?

来到 is a Chinese motion structure
so
来 is needed to show the direction

Hey Vera:
I thought that this is a shortened form of the 是。 。 。的 pattern. I was told that you can leave off the 是 but not the 的。 Because the sentence is emphasizing where the plane is coming from (是从东京来的 )using the pattern is the most natural way to say it.

you can also think that the second setence is short of predicate
