This phrase is similar to phrases like "take each day as it comes", "take it one day at a time", "sufficient is the evil of today", etc. All of these phrases mean that there are enough troubles in the present day for you to focus on, so you should not worry about tomorrow. I believe this is a Tolstoy quote, in which case, I think there it specifically means to just lose yourself in the day to get it over with.
