I think that, in the USA, marriage has lost the moral importance it traditionally enjoyed in prior decades. Nowadays, marriages fail often; at least half of them fail and end in divorce, so they are considered socially and financially expensive. The immoral stigma of "living together" is no longer. Neither is the moral stigma of abortion. Some people think that since homosexual marriage became legal, the entire institution has diminished. To sum up, I believe that the country's attitude toward marriage is varied, based upon regional, moral, and social differences. Some people still value the institution of marriage very highly. Others do not. The USA is very diverse in this way.
