is it difficult to understand other English accents?
I am a Spanish speaker, I learned English and I think the American English that's I learned at the university, well in Mexico, it's that you get, now I want to know if the british accent is difficult for those who learned American English? for example what you hear on the BBC radio isn't how do people speak in England or Wales, I think so , it's normal to be confused about other English accents like Australian, British? because I learned American and not the British one? if I have learned the British, it would be difficult to me to understand the American accent? I hope you understand my question , thankslearning English, I have difficult of listening the British or Australia accent and I don't know why, I feel they pronounce the words different

The biggest problem would probably be the different expressions and slang. Otherwise, like the earlier replies state, the accent takes some getting used to.

As Sean wrote, usually we have no problem. There are exceptions. I know a Scot whose burr thickens after a dram or two, to the extent I really have to concentrate on his words to understand him.

Hey! I'm an spanish speaker, and I get your question, I guess everyone learning a language has trouble with the different accents. For me, I got used to some of the accents (american, british and australian) by watching tv shows. At first you are like Whaaat? but then your hearing gets used to the accent. It's practice, as everything. Hope it works for you!!

Short answer: usually, foreign accents aren't that difficult to understand for native American English speakers.  There are always exceptions (especially with very heavy accents - for instance, heavy English cockney accents can be extremely difficult to understand for American English speakers).

It's a bit harder for me to say whether or not it would be difficult for you to understand the BBC.  Most Americans can understand BBC programming quite well, but it may take you a little while to get used to the accent.  I'd say try listening to a few programs on the BBC and see how much you comprehend!  It may take a few minutes to get used to the new accent.
