The meaning is just different, but not wrong ... depending on what you want to express. Präpositionen: an, auf, unter, neben, zu...ect. z.B Ein Bleistift liegt auf dem Tisch. (on the table) Ein Bleistift liegt unter dem Tisch. (under the table) Das Tischbein gehört zum Tisch. (belongs to, is part of) -> What kind of cheese belongs on top of the pizza -> What kind of cheese belonges to the pizza.

Zu gehören means to belong to, as in to be a part of something. Like I belong to the human race, etc. Auf gehören means to belong on, like which cheese belongs on the pizza, or which symbol belongs on the page, what crest goes on the jersey....

Meiner Meinung nach is die Wortzusammensetzung richtig.
