The construction in the first sentence of pres. subjunctive followed by future indicative is something I can't find discussed anywhere. Why wasn't the subjunctive used in the second sentence? It seems to be a textbook example of a contrary to fact statement so one would expect fueran instead of son and moriría instead of morirá.
