How to say that? Steve Jobs was American. But his being brought up in the US as a US citizen was purely ___, because his biological parents were not of US origin. What word(s)/phrase(s) would you use here? Is 'a chance' the right one? What are the other ways to say that? You can rephrase the whole sentences.

Steve job was American. (Although him being raised in the United States, as a United States citizen was purely (you may write"a chance" or just " chance". The shorter version is preferred.) CHANCE. .....the rest of your sentence fits well.
