Try this way. Divide words in categories like food, home, sports, adverbial clauses, etc. I think that learning words from the same category is easier than memorizing them at random. It worked for me. I hope this will help.

It is an approach that tests you on meanings, with the words you know best occurring less frequently than those you have trouble remembering. There is a free software program called Anki that employs this system that I use for remembering Italian words.
