Is the expression 'brain fart' common? is there another expression to say this?

For that kind of "freeze" situation, I'd say it's pretty common. Another equally common expression (at least in the US) is to have "a senior moment" (sounds more polite than saying "fart"). Not as common is the variation, "a blonde moment." :D
