- passive verb(피동사) The first simple way of making a verb into passive form is appending '-아/어지다' after a verb stem. 지우다 => 지워지다 켜다 => 켜지다 The sencond way is appending one of 이, 히, 리, 기 after a verb stem. 보다 => 보이다 먹다 => 먹히다 밀다 => 밀리다 안다 => 안기다 - causitive verb(사동사) The first way of making a verb into causitive form is appending one of 이, 히, 리, 기 after a verb stem. 녹다 => 녹이다 앉다 => 앉히다 날다 => 날리다 감다 => 감기다 * some verbs like 보이다 and 업히다 have same form in passive form and causitive form. The second way is appending one of 우, 구, 추 after a verb stem. 깨다 => 깨우다 달다 => 달구다 맞다 => 맞추다 The third way is appending '게 하다' after a verb stem. 읽다 => 읽게 하다 A causative verb can be made from an adjective.(passive verb can be made only from a transitive verb) 높다 => 높이다 넓다 => 넓히다 낮다 => 낮추다 늦다 => 늦추다 A causative verb can be made from intransitive verb.(passive verb can be made only from a transitive verb) 삭다 => 삭이다 속다 => 속이다 죽다 => 죽이다 줄다 => 줄이다 돌다 => 돌리다 살다 => 살리다

Basically yes. These rules are usually the same. 1. An example of making the passive form. Ex) 얼음이 녹는다 -> 아기가 얼음을 녹인다. = The ice cube is melting. -> The baby is melting the ice cube. 2 An example of making the causitive form. 경찰이 강도를 잡았다. -> 강도가 경찰에게 잡히었다. = The police caught the robber. -> The robber was caught by the police. Have a good one.
