Reading to bits
I read a book but I didn't read all of it but only some chapters or paragraphs and I skipped most of the pages can I say "I read the book XXX to bits?"

No don't say that, it sounds very odd, and I wouldn't understand what you meant. "I only read bits of it", or "I read some bits and skipped the rest".
