Is "To" = "in order to" in that case? Is there any difference in meaning between the both sentenses below? If there is, can you explain it? Please. In adition, can you give synonyms of "in order to"? I did something "to" improve something. I did something "in order to" improve something. thank you :)

These two sentences have the same meaning. We use 'in order to' to add emphasis, and to make it clear that this was your intended purpose. You can replace 'in order to' with 'so as to' in most cases.
