Negative form of Present continuous
What is the negative form of the present continuous in mandarin? That is, what's the negative form of 他在睡觉 (he is sleeping)?

他没在睡觉。(Personally, I usually say so.)

他不在睡觉。

It is something like English also.
He is sleeping.-----He is NOT sleeping.
他在睡觉-------------他不在睡觉
Here “不” playes a role like "NOT".
Another example:
它是只猫（it is a cat）
它不是只猫（it is NOT a cat）
