I would ask in a polite way, or I'll decide to leave and find some place safe.

It depends on the situation.
If it's supposed to be a non smoking area, I would show them the sign not to smoke.
If it's a public place it should have smokers and non smokers split up already
If i can't do anything, then I will move away from it.
