Could someone put "Lay ahead" in a sentence that illustrates its meaning !
Totally confused with (lay ahead)'s meaning !
what's the difference between Lay/Lie ahead !
I know that "Lie ahead" is about what's going to be happening in the future .e.g : I'm excited by what lies ahead!
I've searched about "lay ahead" meaning but could't find a clear answer ,Until I found this sentence :
These posters were intended to offer the public reassurance in the dark days that lay ahead.
I think (Lay ahead) here is used as if it's (lie ahead) to mean (the upcoming days) !

"Lay ahead" is just the past of "lie ahead". Your example is good. I AM excited about what lies ahead. I WAS excited about what lay ahead.

As an aside, many grammar books highlight these words as frequently misused.
* lie, lied, lied: (say a false thing) - He lied to me. Have you ever lied to your mother?
* lie, lay, lain: (vi - to be in horizontal position, to be at rest) - Happy days lay ahead. He has lain in his bed for a week.
* lay, laid, laid: (vt - to put something in a lying position, to place) - He laid himself down. The groundwork was laid.
