No, between usually means to be shared between two people, whereas amongst could be any number of people more than two.

Yes. Although I agree with Paul that it sounds better to use among(st) in this case, see Merriam Webster (https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/between) under the section "Usage Discussion of between" as to why it is still correct: "There is a persistent but unfounded notion that between can be used only of two items and that among must be used for more than two." Oxford dictionary (https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/between) also has examples of between with more than two people.
