What does "עלות" mean ? What does "עלות" mean in the following sentence? הייתי בודד יותר ממלח שספינתו נטרפה והוא שט על גבי רפסודה בלב האוקיאנוס, לכן תוכלו לשוות בדמיונכם את תמהוני, כאשר עם עלות היום העיר אותי קול קטן ומשונה, ואמר According to dictionary, it means "cost". But it doesn't make sense to me.

In this situation the meaning is like sunrise "When the day is rising" Cost = עֲלוּת Rising=עֲלוֹת The difference is in the position of the dot on letter "ו"

I'm not totally sure, but I think it means "when the day is spent" or "at the end of the day." I only finished Kitah Alef in Ulpan, so I am no expert :)
