Do words "Korea" and "career" sound the same?
Do words "Korea" and "career" sound the same? For me it does even though if I checked the transciption. Maybe in some areas they sound the same? I was told that in British English they sound the same.

I am British and would agree that they have the same pronunciation in most forms of British English. I think some Scottish people would would pronounce the 'r' though.

Yes we say it the same here in England. In America they have a more rhotic way of speaking so you hear the r in career more clearly.

I'm from London and to me they sound very different. After all, Korea has three syllables (ko-re-a), whereas career has only two (ca-reer).

In New Zealand, the first vowel sound is very different. Korea would rhyme with core-ear, and career would rhyme with car-rear
