Simile, metaphor and personification examples I am writing a short story and I would like a couple of examples of metaphor, simile or personification of a phrase, "to shut someone's ears." This phrase comes when a boy was said by someone bad things and he shut his ears. I know what simile, metaphor, personification means, by the way I would like to have some examples to do with the phrase above Thank you!

First of all, I will make a slight corrections to what you wrote: "I would like a couple examples of metaphor, simile or personification." When using "either," you can only give 2 options, such as "either A or B." "of a phrase" at the end of this sentence, I felt, was unnecessary, since it is obvious in context. "This phrase appears when someone says something bad to a boy and he shuts his ears." Rather than "comes," "appears" sounds more natural. In this situation, using the passive voice sounds unusual. We do not use it this way in English. 日本語では受動態がよく不便さや違和感を表しますよね。英語だったら、そんなニュアンスがありません。受動態を使うのは主語が要らないときだけ、使います。例えば:"The ball was kicked really hard" この場合は目的の情報はボールがどういう風に蹴られたことです。誰に蹴られたか知らなくていいから、書かない。もっと詳しく聞かれたら、「by + 誰か」などの返事しかたを使います。 Now I will answer your primary question: A simile is a figure of speech that gives comparisons to things that are unlike one another and typically include the words "like" or "as." Ex: "Your red hair is as red as the fire that burns in my heart" "The look he gave me was like ice." These examples compare two things that have completely different characteristics from one another and normally would not be compared. Metaphors are similar to similes, but do not use "like" or "as." They make statements that equivocate two unlike things. Ex: "I'm sweating bullets here! It's so hot!" In this example, the speaker is expressing that he is sweating a lot. His sweat is coming out in large droplets, so he says "sweating bullets." Of course, they are not literal, but figurative bullets. Personification happens when a person-like characteristic is given to an object. Ex: "The flames of the campfire danced across the dry wood." Of course, flames can not actually dance, but personification is used to give a specific, more vivid description of what is happening. All of these are examples of figurative speech. They provide a way to more thoroughly describe how we perceive the world. I hope this helps! Good luck in your studies!
