Dream of red mansion(Hong Lou Meng in chinese),is a long love story,which is chinese most favourite.Ja baoyu,the hore,love his cousin Lin daiyu,the heroine,but they can not get marry in end, and Lin daiyu was dead. The novel describs the true life of ancient nobles but in a fictitious dynasty. Yes, I read the 1st Volume (of 5) of the Dream of the Red Chamber (alternative name) in English.  I thought it was very intriguing.  Novel of manners, interesting study of society, history, wealth in ancient China, sex, intrigue, power struggles.  A very fascinating, but very long book, and with so many characters its hard to keep them all straight.
