Is this sentence proper "Hochdeutsch"?
I have heard a song with the lyrics "Sie setzt die Kopfhörer auf" I thought the correct way to say it was "Sie setzt sich die Kopfhörer auf" as in "Er setzt sich den Hut auf" is it just not "Hochdeutsch" or is there something I'm missing?

It's not "proper", but nonetheless quite common in colloquial conversation.

If you say "Sie setzen sich die Kopfhörer auf", you are way more precise, as you know whom they put the headphones on ("themselfs=sich")
