Generally speaking, love has a deeper meaning

I think affection is when you are very fond of someone (you like them a lot), but not necessarily always in a romantic way, although it can also be in a romantic way too e.g. a mother feels affection for her son, or shows affection to her daughter or husband. Love is probably stronger than affection, because you can feel affection for a close friend, but that doesn't mean you love them.
