Hello Sasha!
I would say that the most appropriate word would be "smoothing". That is what you call the action of, when standing up, removing the creases of your clothing that may have become a bit rumpled while sitting down. But I would say "smoothing out" is better.
I hope that helps!

Hi Sasha,
I would agree with the others - "smoothing" is the best option.
All the best with your studies!

No native English speaker is ever going to agree on the correct answer we need to know what grammar is being taught in the UNIT/LESSON/SECTION OF THE BOOK. The reason no English speaker is agreeing is because in normal daily speaking when not dictated by a lesson key to find, we speak and use metaphors very frequently.
She could have stretched the skirt back down to her ankles after it had ridden up her leg/legs, she could have ironed it with an ironing motion with her hand/s, she could have flattened out a crease/s that were in the skirt, she could have smoothed out the wrinkles in the dress with her hands in the sam ironing motion that would fit ironing.
I would suggest that 'flattening her skirt" forms a natural collocation. But this is not a strong English collocation and is the reason for native speakers to disagree. "smoothing out her clothes" is a strong natural collocation. So I would rewrite the story as "smoothing OUT her ankle long skirt"

There are not Four possible answers from a row reading left to right but a grid of four ROWS and X Columns so the possible answers are ROWS MULTIPLIED BY X COLUMNS, you find the best word from a COLUMN of words and you write the Column Letter and word in the answer, I have seen many italki members using these books, ask what Column is the best for me to find the answer whenever they are stuck, to reduce their word choice. You are not using the book correctly on some questions.

Scroll down to page 7 with four lists A,B,C,and D on page 8 on the link Sasha has now provided. in the comments to ME
MY UNDERSTANDING is you do not have to read from left to right you pick from the list reading from THE top to THE bottom of THE page, with the correct answer in It, -D 'pulled up'. Not the four options in a horizontal row LEFT TO RIGHT.
You have missed a possible answer from The list labelled D, Which I have shown below.
This series of books cause a lot of problems to students who ask for answers unaware they have missed a possible answer from a labelled List. SEE the List Below.
