Hello Jane, Obviously the rate or reproduction is higher than that of extinction through wars or natural disasters.

Homo sapiens is simply a species that has been fortunate enough to survive until now, just like the African Elephant, the Lion, the Golden Eagle, the Blue Whale, the Tarantula and millions more. But because of factors triggered by temperature change, natural disaster, Earth impacts and disease, many species have gone extinct. There is good evidence to suggest that even humans have come close to extinction on several occasions in the past (see the Toba Event, for example), and there is no doubt that one day we will become extinct too. It's a matter of when, not if.
