"The gravity of the situation left me speechless."

- The gravity OF the situation silenced me.
- I was lost for words at the gravity of the situation.
If you want to be more dramatic you could say
- The gravity of the situation struck me dumb.
- The gravity of the situation robbed me of the power of speech.
