Topic: Some people think that extreme sports help to build character ---------- Extreme sports are believed to be useful in building character. It is thought that risk makes us stronger and braver. I agree with this opinion, because taking to extreme sports means being adventurous and courageous. A weak person would never agree to bungee jumping, skiing from highest mountains and so on. Moreover, constantly doing risky sports, we get used to difficulties and obstacles, that arise on our life path every now and then. Finally, extreme sports usually require tremendous muscular efforts. This makes us stronger and, by extension, builds our character. My opponents claim that such activity has its own flaws. Firstly, doing professional sports, that extreme ones usually are, means spending enormous amount of time and money. Even if one has got a momentous motivation, it cannot be guaranteed that once he or she will not be broken down due to inability to cope with challenges. Furthermore, risk is not always worth taking. There are other ways to change character traits. Eventually, extreme suggests danger. Injures are inevitable and not everyone is able to overcome them not having given up. However, I suppose that extreme sports have more pros, than cons anyway. For example, financial issue can be solved by finding a good instructor or trainer who does not ask too much for his or her service. And it can't be argued that injures are unavoidable in whichever sport. One may break a leg just jogging in the park or get a bruise simply having hit a swimming pool edge! To sum up, doing extreme sports is not for everyone. Only the strongest and the bravest can cope with all troubles and difficulties and achieve their aim, but through all those challenges they will undoubtedly improve their character.
