Donate - I would explain as a charitable action, giving something (financial, physician item, etc.) to someone or a group, generally without expecting something return. In the US a food drive/donation would be a common example - people will buy extra canned foods and donate then to an organization or group that distributes said food to people in need. Contribute is a little different, to contribute would be to assist or actively help someone, a group, or company, etc. It is not a donation but active participation in helping to the success or failure of whatever matter you are helping with. Think of contribute as a more professional term for "helping". Devote I would describe as that of a commitment. For example, to devote your life to a cause, is to commit your life to said cause. It is a full commitment, not a partial one. You give up yourself in a way, to a greater purpose or what you devote yourself to. Imagine devoting your life to a king/queen, you live a life of "service" to another. To devote is in a way a combination of charity (to some extent) and contribution but with much greater importance. It can almost be seen as symbolic. The way I would phrase it, in a religious sense would be. I have devoted my life to Buddha, Jesus Christ, etc. It is a conscious, willing, lifelong commitment or at least a commitment that is made with the intention of seeing said matter all the way through. My answer may not be as technical or accurate as some others but hopefully this can help you picture a difference between the three terms.

Denote is charity like money or element or substance you give to some one, while contribute( like some one is collecting money from many people and you also give some money. So you are contributing. Another example , if you are helping people on italki you are contributing as well. Devote is when you give your maximum resources such as : time, money or energy to some cause or to some one .. This is what I understand
