We used to invite some friends and relatives to our home our restaurant to have a big meal.The people would bring gifts to the birthday people,and one of these people will order a birthday cake.
But nowadays we infrequently celebrate our birthdays in that way.Sometimes we just go to the restaurant to have a dinner even without a birthday cake,because most of us don’t have the sense of ceremony after we grow up.

But nowadays we seldom celebrate our birthdays in that way. Sometimes we just go to the restaurant to have a dinner even without a birthday cake, because most of us don’t have the sense of ceremony after we grow up.
Using "the people" feels that you don't know them. But since you use "some friends" you can use the pronoun "they/them" (depending on the pronoun form) to refer to "some friends".
